Wandering Down a Crooked Road

March 6, 2017

Once again, we started the day catching a train in Coventry to Milton Keynes.

Helen and Robert Wordsworth met us at the station and drove Katora Campbell, Katie and me to Farnham. I still have not become comfortable with driving on the left side of the road, but Robert was an excellent driver so the ride was enjoyable. The countryside was beautiful! We drove past Windsor Castle and the fields where the queen enjoys horseback riding.

The University for Creative Arts was our destination. Katie and I met her professor for a tour of the school while the others enjoyed exploring the shops in Farnham. (Katora enjoyed her first British scone with cream and jam and as always the tea was delicious.)

The school's labs and facilities included glass, ceramics, metalwork, jewelry, textiles, everything imaginable including bronze casting. It was fascinating watching the excitement of possibilities brighten their faces as Katie and her professor talked about opportunities and options. This must be how w...

Katie and I took the train from Coventry to London Euston Station after breakfast. It was a grand adventure! The train station is a very interesting place full of shops and food vendors and people from all walks of life speaking a wide variety of languages. But I am getting ahead of myself.

Helen found us at the station and taught us how to purchase passes that were good for the tube and the buses and then we were off on our adventure. I have not ridden on a double-decker bus before; it was a great way to see London. Helen is a wonderful tour guide and walked us around explaining about the history and buildings in the city. We ende...

Thursday and Friday March 2-3, 2017

The first International Westberg Symposium on the Road brings me to Coventry, UK. As the guest of Reverend Dr. Helen Wordsworth, founder and Director of Parish Nursing Ministries UK.

Dr. Katora Campbell, Director of the Westberg Institute for Faith Community Nursing, Katie Ruth Hinton, our resident artist and assistant, and I flew from Memphis, TN to Atlanta, GA, then to Amsterdam, and then to Birmingham, UK. Helen met us at the airport and skillfully navigated us onto a train, luggage in tow, then into a taxi for a short ride to the Ibis Coventry Hotel. Helen turned our unfamiliarity with train travel into a fun time and helped Katie and I to be brave enough to try it on our own tomorrow.
